Issues having your car pass emissions?

Here is what they check when you bring your car in for a E-Test.

Pre-test check

If the inspector finds any of the following issues, it must be corrected before the emissions test can continue, as it could lead to injury and/or the test equipment may not work properly:

  • missing catalytic converter and/or gas cap
  • defects in the fuel filler pipe
  • problems with the on-board computer system that would prevent the vehicle from being tested
  • visible smoke coming from the tailpipe
  • any problems the inspector believes would prevent the vehicle from being tested safely

You will receive a pre-test check rejection form, if the vehicle cannot be tested. You will need to return for the test, once any required repairs are made.

The actual test entails

Hooking up device monitor to check if there are any codes reading pertaining to the emissions, you car will fail your e-test if that check engine light is on.

Then they hook up the tail pipe test to see if there is any leaks with your exhaust that could be dangerous to the public and environment.

What they don’t want you to know

If your car is over 20 years old and your repair to get the test is over 300$ you could be lucky enough to get a conditional pass on your vehicle. They can give you, your slip with the information that its a conditional and you can get this years sticker.drive-clean

Detailing

vacuum the interior and washing the windows is just some of the hassles we can take care of in an automotive detail at Dignity Repairs. Like taking your car out for a manicure and a hair cut. We also get the latches, door handles, floors of the interior and the passenger seating area. Make your car interior the envy of your passengers.

Careful where you park

If this means arriving early to get the nice parking spot it is worth the effort to keep that car looking beautiful. You want to park in direct sunlight away from trees, mud and the disgusting winter ice and snow.

Cleaning the exterior

At Dignity Repairs we offer car wash packages that keep the exterior looking clean to. To give your car that all around sexy appearance. This means getting rid of caked on dirt, filth and dust. For that fresh look which helps the vehicle suit the class of the driver. Remember with interior and exterior clean you are what you drive.

Using proper chemical cleaners

We all know there is some stuff you just should not clean your car with. Cars have so many types of materials that make up the interior such as vinyl, leather, cloth and metal. You are probably better to go with a higher end cleaner opposed to a lower end cleaner which is really just there to get the job done with out any thought over long term use. Of course do your research. Or ask someone in the Dignity Repairs shop fora cleaner recommendation.

Using a Quality Wax

Nothing keeps the paint of your car looking good like a quality wax to protect the coating. It is recommended to have the waxing applied every six months to make sure your car is staying as good looking as possible.

To conclude your car is a big part of who you are, it forms an impression about you in your everyday life. You want to be driving a car with dignity, class and parking lot sex appeal. Make sure you have your car properly detailed, take care with where you park your vehicle, clean your vehicle exterior, use the proper chemical cleaners and give your car a descent waxing. Keeping all that in mind will make sure you have a vehicle worthy of the driver.

3 tips for spring auto maintenance

Tips for Spring auto maintenance (1)

Spring is nearing you can see the snow leaving, you can see clearly on the road and the horizon is clear ahead. Well except for the rainy days… Still many people don’t know what are important things to look at for Spring time auto maintenance. Today Dignity Repairs is going to share three tips for auto maintenance in the spring.

  1. Check batteries, plugs and wires– All these components give the power to your vehicle. Without these you are stuck roadside seeking the help of a friendly stranger. Test and replace your old batteries, plugs and wires. Especially if they are over two years old.
  2. Tire pressure– Nothing sucks like being stuck with a flat tire on the side of the road! Winter weather can actually reduce the  pressure in your tire. In Toronto you have 5 months of cold weather beating on your tires. Just think in this case it is better to be safe than sorry!
  3. Check fluid levels– There are lots of things to check  do not miss any of them. Engine oil needs to be checked, so does transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze/coolant and, yes, even wind-shield washer fluid. Commonly brake fluid is a big issue in the spring time.
