Issues having your car pass emissions?

Here is what they check when you bring your car in for a E-Test.

Pre-test check

If the inspector finds any of the following issues, it must be corrected before the emissions test can continue, as it could lead to injury and/or the test equipment may not work properly:

  • missing catalytic converter and/or gas cap
  • defects in the fuel filler pipe
  • problems with the on-board computer system that would prevent the vehicle from being tested
  • visible smoke coming from the tailpipe
  • any problems the inspector believes would prevent the vehicle from being tested safely

You will receive a pre-test check rejection form, if the vehicle cannot be tested. You will need to return for the test, once any required repairs are made.

The actual test entails

Hooking up device monitor to check if there are any codes reading pertaining to the emissions, you car will fail your e-test if that check engine light is on.

Then they hook up the tail pipe test to see if there is any leaks with your exhaust that could be dangerous to the public and environment.

What they don’t want you to know

If your car is over 20 years old and your repair to get the test is over 300$ you could be lucky enough to get a conditional pass on your vehicle. They can give you, your slip with the information that its a conditional and you can get this years sticker.drive-clean

When do your tires need replacing?

When to replace tires

Not sure when you replace your tires? Here are some tips that will help you determine when your tires should be repaired or replaced.

Step 1:

Check your tires periodically for wear. We understand that you probably don’t look at your tires very often, but it’s a good habit to get into. If you look at them regularly, you will have an easier time discerning whether the tires are in good shape or if a problem is developing.

Step 2:

Recognize what’s going on with your tire wear. Do any of your tires look like this?  If yes, it’s time to replace your tires.

Step 3:

How is the tire tread holding up? If you can stick a penny in between the tire tread and Lincoln’s head is covered, your tires still have plenty of tread. However, if you stick the penny in between the tread and you can clearly see Lincoln’s head, your tires need to be replaced.

Step 4:

Do you see any signs of bubbling, cupping, or bulging in your tires? If yes, your tires are at risk of blowing out, and that’s very dangerous. Do your best to avoid driving your vehicle until you replace those bubbling, cupping, or bulging tires.

Step 5:

Look for nails or other debris stuck in your tires. Nails can cause a flat, but often we can repair the flat right away. If your tires have any nails breaking the surface, get your flat tire fixed right away.
